Nightmares...This is Getting old...REALLY FAST!!!

So it's around 1 AM now, and this is the FOURTH TIME in 4 days now that I have been awaken by night a nightmare. The other night if you can believe it, I woke up twice from two different ones.  Every nightmare has been different and last night (Friday night) I didn't have one, slept great, but this is getting old really fast.  This is one of the reasons that I use to NOT sleep in the first place because of having nightmares.  I now just feel like saying to heck with sleep for this night and staying up for the duration.  Eric is even with me tonight, but I just don't want to go back to sleep now with the possibility of having yet another one tonight.  Thursday evening was when I had two in a row and that has never happened to me before and I really don't want it to happen again.  They just all started again on Wed evening and again, this is the first time where I have had them THIS MANY times in a short span of time.
The dreams themselves I barely remember, but what I do remember of them is that they were all completely different, not even a theme similarity or anything.  So I do not have a clue as to what is going on with me here lately to have caused this TERRIBLE disturbance in my sleep.  I am a baby though, I get scared unfortunately to easy and it sticks with me for a while too.   So I have that against me.
I just got in the mail 2 boxes of things from two places today that I have been waiting for so I will dig into those and play around and just create some things that I need to work on anyway now.
If any of you have some type of advice or "nightmare remedy" PLEASE let me know what it is and I will try anything to stop these again from haunting me every single night.

Christy~

I too am plagues with nightmares. I have been for as long as I can remember. I do not hardly ever remember them, I just wake up anxious. I am told by my fiance that this happens often about 5 nights a week that I cry out, yell, etc. I am actually glad that I don't remember but am not happy about the sleep disturbance. I have taken medication in the past but I did not see that it helped. I wish I had some kind of great advice to give you but I dont. All I can say is pray about it and that I can relate to how it can effect ones mood and sleep. I hope this passes soon.

I used to have nightmares. It was like a battle in my mind as I kept telling myself to stop and I couldn't make it stop!

I found this scripture helpful to me when I was having nightmares and I'd say it outloud each night before bed and if I woke up from a dream. I don't know your faith but wanted to shrare this, k?:

Psalm 4:8 I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone Lord, make me dwell in safety.

One thing worth trying, is watching your diet before bedtime. Stay away from strong foods. Try a cup of camomille tea before bed. I hear Bachs Rescue Remedy (flower essenses) are very calming. Health foods stores will have it.

Good luck and God bless.

Christy,
I also have alot of nightmares but I agree that prayer and more prayer helps. Don't take sleeping pills and sometimes different medications make them worse. I had so many I started writing a book--they were stephen king crazy. Lately, I have not had any. Pray and pray. God can give us peace day and night.
Hopefully they will go away,
Kim

Hi Christy,

Prayer would be the first thing I would recommend. Also, eating things like pizza before bed always gives me crazy dreams. The food you eat has a lot to do with the dreams you have. There is an excellent book about thinking and the mind (Who Switched Off My Brain?). There is some information in there about dreams. The author says that your thinking patterns can influence your dreams. Dreams are supposed to be our brain sorting out our thoughts, so often if we have nightmares, there may be something we need to deal with. I know that personally I have had nightmares sometimes when I have been very worried or upset about something. Sometimes also inner problems that we haven't dealt with can come out in nightmares. I've had this happen to me before, too.

My suggestion would be to spend some time before going to bed reading the Bible and meditating on God's promises. Maybe you could even play peaceful music while you sleep. (or even better, I would probably play the Bible on my mp3 player!)

I really hope this helps. I'll pray for you to get some peaceful sleep without nightmares!

Have a good day!
Renee
